Engraving Variations & Optical Effect Policy
At Engravia Customs LLC, every engraved item is individually crafted. Due to the nature of laser engraving and the materials used, no two engraved products will ever look exactly the same. Each piece has its own natural variations in detail, tone, and texture.
When engraving photographs, portraits, or documents, we apply necessary edits such as filters, contrast adjustments, sharpening, and grayscale conversion to ensure the clearest possible engraving. Because of these changes, the final engraving may differ from the original image, and this is normal.
Optical Effects, “Negative” Look, and Light Reflection
Engraved surfaces—especially metal pendants, stainless steel, and reflective materials—interact with light in unique ways. When the piece is moved or viewed under different lighting conditions, engraved areas may shift visually and appear either lighter or darker.
This effect is even more common in vector art portraits and high-contrast designs, where the engraving has sharper lines and deeper tonal differences.
As a result:
Engravings may appear positive in one angle and negative in another.
Under certain lighting, the darker areas may look lighter first, or vice-versa.
Tilting the pendant can cause the image to invert visually due to light reflection.
These variations are a natural characteristic of laser engraving and are not defects. They are part of what makes each engraved piece unique.
Material & Process Variations
Variations may occur due to:
Material differences (metal finish, wood grain, acrylic clarity, stone texture, etc.)
Shadows and highlights present in the original photo
The way the laser interacts with the specific material
Required image enhancements to preserve detail
The reflective properties of vector art and high-contrast imagery
By placing an order, customers acknowledge that each engraved product will have a unique appearance, including natural optical effects such as light reflection or temporary negative visuals.
